Shella Martin, Creative Director, Salon XVI Shella Martin has mastered the art of balanced beauty by combining her considered approach to skincare with the versatility of makeup. A self-confessed beauty and fashion addict, Martin has been working as an events and editorial makeup artist for over 18 years and is currently the Creative Director of Salon XVI in Melbourne. Martin has a natural ability to read people, and not in the conventional way. Her extensive experience as a Makeup Director for the likes of Vogue Australia and Elle demonstrates her natural ability to read the beauty profile of each subject. Be that the defined cheekbones of a runway model to the finest freckles of a beauty client. Martin celebrates the uniqueness of each individual leaning on superior techniques relating to shape, light, texture and colour to enhance and complement the creative direction of each project. Martins aesthetic is informed by her passion for fashion and photography. While her appreciation for skincare and make up is driven by her less is more when it comes to skin philosophy. It’s no wonder why she’s well recognised for creating radiant glowing skin, even more so for a great brushed up brow and a precise lined eye. This year marks a new achievement for Martin where she has been selected as a finalist for one of the industry’s most prestigious awards, Australia Hair Fashion Awards Makeup Artist of the Year. For 2019, Martin’s expert knowledge and experience has seen her partner with luxury skincare brand Rationale as an official ambassador. Martin will be hosting a series of skincare and make up workshops for consumers and industry professionals across the country from March 2019. Prior to 2019, Martin has conducted skincare and makeup masterclasses for the likes of Myer, YSL Beauty and Bioderma. Martin’s beauty work has featured in editorial publications both in Australia and overseas including Vogue Australia, Vogue Japan, Elle, ID Tokyo, Numero Tokyo, ID (Aunz), Vision China, Vogue Italia, No.ise and Cream. In 2017, Martin was selected by renowned makeup director Pat McGrath to join her at Milan Fashion Week A/W17 as part of the official make up team for iconic Italian fashion houses Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. Assisting to McGarth, Martin tended to Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, British Royal Lady Kitty Spencer, Wednesday Campanella and Oliver Chesire. Martin applied her experience to an impressive line-up of commercial clients across the lifestyle category. In cosmetics and skincare, Martin has collaborated with international brands such as Shu Umeura Art of Hair, Redken 5th Avenue NYC, L’Oréal Professionnel and Bioderma. While on the fashion circuited, Martin has partnered with Dion Lee, Maticevski, Sass & Bide, Strataus Carlucci, Georgio Armani, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Bvlgari, Top Shop and Bonds. Martin’s celebrity roster is equally impressive ranging from the likes of Australian Vogue Editor Edwina McCann, Collette Dinnigan, Julia Stone, Tash Oakley, Ashley Hart, Montaine, Tina Arena, Kimbra, Ashleigh Brewer, Sahara Ray, Elyse Knowles and Steph Claire Smith As the creative director of Salon XVI, Martin spearheads the editorial, film, commercial, bridal and competition direction of the artistic team. An offering she has grown steadily with her business partner and husband, Ben Martin for over ten years.
